Vegan Dinner Rolls For Thanksgiving Dinner

Fluffy pale golden globes, crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside

People used to make & eat dinner rolls all the time. Now we eat rolls mainly at restaurants, and holiday meals like Thanksgiving.

Dinner Rolls! Fluffy pale golden globes, crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside. Little nutritional value. Loaded with butter (or veggie spread), companions to excessive amounts of food.

So why do we eat dinner rolls? Because they're delcious, of course! Plus, they're easy and fun to make!

Dinner Roll Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 package instant yeast (2 1/2 tsp)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water

Directions:

  1. Mix dry ingredients together in a bowl
  2. Mix in water with a wooden spoon
  3. Continue incorporating the water by hand
  4. If more water is needed add 1 tablespoon of water at a time until the dough holds together in a ball
  5. Place the dough on a clean surface and knead for 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and resists kneading
  6. Cover and allow to rise in a warm place (not the oven) until doubled in size (1-2 hours)
  7. Punch dough down and knead for a few minutes
  8. Cover and allow the dough to rest 20 minutes
  9. Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls
  10. Place the balls on an oiled cookie sheet, cover and allow to proof for 30 minutes
  11. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
  12. Make an angled slash 1/4 inch deep into the top of each roll
  13. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden
  14. Remove from pan and cool on racks
