Applesauce

Apple Sauce is an easy healthy comfort food, simple to make, delicious by itself as a breakfast or snack, or added to applesauce cake. Indians eat it as Apple Raisin Chutney

Use organic apples if possible, for great taste, with no pesticides and herbicides. The best time to make applesauce is in the fall, when you can buy organic apples by the bushel at the farmer's market for a reasonable price. Then it's economical to make large quantities of applesauce.

It's always wise to make lots of applesauce anyway, and hide it from your family and friends, because it's addictive. Be warned that applesauce has a strong tendency to disappear before you can put any into muffins or cakes.

We prefer apple sauce unsweetened It lets the taste of the organic apples come shining through. You can always sweeten at the table, or add sweetener when you're using applesauce in a recipe.

Try substituting pears for apples. Pear sauce is a whole 'nother taste sensation! Smoother, sweeter, less acidic. Babies often prefer pear sauce.
